Countertop Care & Maintenance

Quartz Counters Care and Maintenance:

Routine Care and Maintenance

  • Clean regularly with soap and water to maintain the glossy finish.
  • Use warm water and a damp cloth with a non-abrasive cleaner (bleach-free).

Preventing Damages

  • Heat
    • Quartz resists heat but can be damaged by extreme temperature changes. Use trivets and hot pads for hot kitchenware.
    • Avoid placing hot items directly over seams for an extended period.
  • Scratches
    • Quartz is scratch-resistant, but cutting directly on it should be avoided. Use cutting boards and handle heavy objects with care.
  • Chemicals
    • Avoid exposure to strong chemicals found in household items (paint removers, bleach, etc.).
    • Cleaning products with oils, powders, or abrasives should be avoided.
  • Chemicals to Avoid
Avoid the following chemicals as they may damage Quartz:
    • Oil soaps, dyes, stains, paint thinner, or strippers.
    • Solvents like acetone, nail polish, lacquer thinner, or bleach (short-term exposure is acceptable for cleaning stains).
    • Chlorinated solvents (trichloroethylene or methylene chloride).
    • Benzene, toluene, methyl ethyl ketone (M.E.K.).
    • Concentrated acids (hydrocyanic acid, hydrofluoric acid, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid).
    • Chemicals with high alkaline/PH levels (pH > 10).
  • Handling Chemical Contact
If any of the listed substances contact Quartz, rinse with plenty of water and follow routine cleaning immediately.
  • Recommended Cleaners
    Use the following cleaners:
    • Simple Green
    • 10x Stone Polish
    • Magic Eraser by Mr. Clean
    • Mild Soap and Water
    • Denatured Alcohol
    • Hopes Surface Cleaner
    • Rock Doctor Cleaner

Laminate tops:

1. Dealing with Streaks:

  • Glass cleaning products like Mr Muscle Surface & Glass or Ajax Spray ‘n’ Wipe are effective on streaky marks, especially on dark colors and gloss surfaces.

2. Handling Grease:

  • Use hot soapy water to deal with greasy marks; finish off with a glass cleaner if needed.

3. Quick Action for Spills:

  • Promptly wipe off spills like beetroot and berry juices, first aid preparations, bleach, dishwasher detergents, and artificial dyes. Avoid using certain cleaners like acid-based ceramic cleaners, oven cleaner, or limescale removers.

4. Addressing Scratches:

  • To minimize scratching, avoid dragging or sliding objects on the surface. Always place and lift objects.

5. Stain Removal:

  • If Ajax Spray ‘n’ Wipe doesn’t remove a stain, try methylated spirits or a diluted bleach mixture. Be cautious as bleach may damage the laminate surface. Use solvents like methylated spirits or acetone for ink marks from pens.

6. Cleaning After Use:

  • After using a cleaner, rinse the surface with water and polish dry with a soft cloth.

7. Avoiding Certain Actions:

  • Don’t place hot appliances or pots directly on the laminate surface.
  • Avoid scourers and abrasives, as they can damage the surface.
  • Refrain from using furniture polishes to prevent silicone wax buildup that may cause discoloration and smear marks.
  • Don’t cut directly on Formica laminate surfaces.
  • Avoid placing burning cigarettes on the laminate surface.
